Winter is here!!  Soups are so good this time of year.  Below is a Split Pea Soup recipe that many folks have requested through the past several years.

I want to share it with my  friends and family.  It takes only minutes to put together after the peas are soaked.


2 carrots

2 cups dried split peas

3 stalks celery

1 medium potato  (optional: for thickening soup)

1 medium onion

1 teaspoon garlic powder ( may crush garlic bulbs)

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon cayenne (to taste)

1 teaspoon Celtic or Himalayan salt  (to taste)

1/2 parsley flakes

2 quarts soup stock  ( may use half filtered water and soup stock or use filtered water)


Soak peas overnight in distilled water. Drain, rinse and set aside.  Shred carrots, chop or dice onion and celery, and cube potato. Saute onion and spices in distilled water.  Add salt, soaked peas, and vegetable stock or other choice.  Bring to boil and simmer for one hour. Add potatoes (optional), carrots and celery.  Simmer for an additional hour or until peas have reached a soft consistency.  A slow cooker will work.  Stir often to prevent sticking.

The optional step is to put the soup in a blender and now the soup is a creamy soup…   Enjoy
